Itinerary

Day 1Amritsar arrival and Excursion to Wagah Border.

On arrival at Amritsar railway station, meet and assist by our local driver.  Amritsar – colloquially known as Ambarsar and historically known as Ramdaspur, it derives its name from Amrit Sarovar which was built by Guru Ram Das in the village of Tung. At the center of its walled old town, the gilded Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib) is the holiest gurdwara (religious complex) of the Sikh religion. It’s at the end of a causeway, surrounded by the sacred Amrit Sarovar tank (lake), where pilgrims bathe. Transfer and check in at the hotel. After freshen up, leave for an excursion to –

  • Attari – Wagah Border: They’re named after two places: Attari (India) and Wagah (Pakistan), on either side of the border. The Lowering of the Flags ceremony at the Attari–Wagah border is a daily ceremony that the security forces of India (Border Security Force) and Pakistan (Pakistan Rangers) have jointly followed since 1959. The drill is characterized by elaborate and rapid dance-like manoeuvres and raising legs as high as possible, which have been described as “colourful”. It is both a symbol of the two countries’ rivalry, and a display of brotherhood and cooperation between the two nations.
  • Punjab State War Heros’ Memorial & Museum: Located abutting Amritsar – Attari Road on the outskirts of the city. It is a prominent landmark and source of attraction for the tourists who visit a daily event of interesting beating-retreat ceremony at the Wagah Border. The memorial-museum is aimed at to showcase the splendid gallantry deeds of the brave hearts of Punjab. It is planned to immortalize the deeds of brave soldiers and to inspire and infuse the spirit of patriotism in the youth. The hallmark of the magnificent campus is a 45-metre-high stainless-steel sword on the central edifice. It represents strength and courage of the people of Punjab while defending the nation in the hour of need.

After attending the ceremony, return to main city and visit –

  • Hall Bazaar: A vibrant shopping destination that is sure to captivate visitors. This bustling market offers a unique blend of traditional and modern shopping experiences, where tourists can explore a wide range of products, from clothing and accessories to handicrafts and souvenirs.

After shopping, return to hotel. Overnight at Amritsar.

Day 2Full day city tour

After breakfast leave for a full day excursion. Start the tour by visiting –

  • Golden Temple: Also known as the Harmandir Sahib (House of God) or the Darbār Sahib, it is the pre-eminent spiritual site of Sikhism. It is one of the holiest sites in Sikhism, alongside the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur in Kartarpur, and Gurdwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib. The Golden Temple is an open house of worship for all people, from all walks of life and faiths. It has a square plan with four entrances, and a circumambulation path around the pool. The four entrances to the gurudwara symbolises the Sikh belief in equality and the Sikh view that all people are welcome into their holy place.
  • Jallianwala Bagh: Is a historic garden and memorial of national importance close to the Golden Temple complex, preserved in the memory of those wounded and killed in the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre that took place on the site on the festival of Baisakhi Day, 13 April 1919. The 7-acre site houses a museum, gallery and several memorial structures.
  • Partition Museum: Is a public museum located in the town hall, the museum aims to become the central repository of stories, materials, and documents related to the post-partition riots that followed the division of British India into two independent dominions: India and Pakistan. The museum also focuses on the history of the “anti-colonial movement, the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, the Komagata Maru incident, the All-India Muslim League and the Indian National Congress, and the journey of resilience and recuperation for women”. The building wherein the museum is located was also “once the British headquarters and a jail”.
  • Durgiana Temple: Dedicated to Maa Durga, Durgiana Temple is also famous as Lakshmi Narayan Temple, which is a well-known repository of Hindu scriptures. The remarkable thing about this temple is its appearance which is modelled on the Golden Temple.

Return to hotel after sightseeing. Overnight at Amritsar.
